It’s been 6 months, maybe I should do a blog post? It’s been both a good and shit half year, medically i’m all over the shop and had a really bad reaction to some meds i was on and that caused a massive sludgey dip in creativity. I’ve been pushing through but it’s been a bit hard.
I find I don’t want to spend time on my laptop when i’m not at work, hence…I do things but don’t blog about them. I know i need to do blog maintenance too and i don’t want to.
What have I produced? hrm.
A friend who has two horses got married, what better to do than a double portrait? I actually planned these pictures out so they would be a pair, did some mini sketch ups in black and white and then colour to sort out what the finished ones should look like.
I joined my company just before xmas last year, we were asked what our favorite childhood toy was in preparation for the xmas party. I said it was my soft toy squirrel. I used to take Scamper shopping, much to the disgust of my cousin, who was far cooler than me (tbf, that’s everyone, but i had no idea she held the idea of squirrel-attended shopping with such contempt for years). So because i joined so close to party, I missed out on the squirrel at the actual party…but i got a promise note from Santa, and then in the new year it was eventually delivered, and it’s now been introduced to Scamper. I have kept all my soft toys, they live in bags but sometimes come out to say hello. I went strange in my first few months of this job as it was such a relief to be in a sane team, and i went a bit obsessive over doing an embroidery of them. I am going to make into a handbag so i can take it shopping, and presumably horrify my cousin all over again.
I also really like my current workplace so I dubbed my new squirrel ’emotional support squirrel’
I did a lot of random doodling and drawing, here are a few chickens. I bought a book of chicken portraits. Not really something I thought i’d ever type but there we are.
.
Finally finished the embroidery of the characters, finished off the puppets. robots, and bottom line of titanic, star wars, matrix, and the hobbit. My last embroidery on this was an ent, given my liking for ents (the only bit of the Two Towers I ever reread is the ent bits), that worked out well for me.
Last year i attended a 30th of someone who has a dog and what better gift than a portrait of the dog? I have seen video footage of the dog being shown the painting and wuff wuffing at it in indignation, i hope that’s not a criticism of the likeness. I had seldom painted such a floofy animal, took me ages to get this right.
I’ve made another long furby, and a few mcdonalds-furby and op-shop toy mashups. These all seem to take forever but finally finished them.
And then there are these things. The white horse is just hot glue dripped over a horse form and as it slowly turned into JizzHorse while I watched in mild horror. Note the googly eyes.
The LOL suprise doll got a new head (a skull bead) and paint job, and the decapitated my little pony from a prior mash up got…whatever the fuck that thing it has instead of a face. The dragon thing is something I’d done probably 20 years ago in air dried clay and i finally got around to painting.
