Ok so my last post was part one of randomness I’ve done so far in 2020, here is the second bit!
A-ha were huge in 1984 and 85. Given I was a child the first time they came out and I didn’t even know concerts really were a thing, I missed them. On Sunday I got to see them! With Rick Astley, who frankly was terrific too. Went with a bunch of friends. There was a Tool concert next door who I knew about 4 million people going to that, too.
I’ve talked about being nerd before; one of my nerd things is perfumes. Turns out I am now working with someone who is also a massive perfume nerd. On a trip to Royal Arcade to buy perfume at Paint and Powder, we found out they do workshops where you turn up, eat, and get to sniff things and have the perfumes talked about. Upshot was I bought a LOT of perfume, but hey it was my birthday. I would never have tried the two I bought if I had not been at that night.
During the 90s I bought three Princess Leia dolls, one from each movie. The dolls are kinda Ok in quality, the doll bodies are…alarming…and the faces were a bit naff. And the Jedi Leia looks nothing like Carrie Fisher so don’t judge me on the faceup I did on that one. It was stonkingly unlike. And the body on the largely undressed Leia was really different. Anyway, I redid the faces and redressed them, they look so much better.
I also found two dolls in an op shop with HUMONGOUS heads and Betty Boo-d one of them. I read up the history of Betty Boo, there’s a lot there. I had to mould new feet and body onto this doll to get some shape. Her hair is actually felted, I had no idea how to do a crop with tiny curls and thought of using felting wool and it kinda worked.
It’s been a good month for roses. The environment is fucked in so many ways. It rained in Feb, first time I can remember having green grass and fresh flowers during this time of year. I picked fresh roses. I also did a flower workshop at work for valentines day and made myself a bouquet.
I got taken out to dinner to Vue de Monde last week and it was AMAZING.
Yak shaving is where you want to do one thing and end up having to do a zillion things first. I made this for my team, it will go around as needed. I made the yack from polymer clay with a bit of wire for the horns, and glued gold felt to it. I used the eyeballs I used for felting. It is so cute.
My embroidery comes along. I decided to do Farscape next and have drawn up not quite all of the characters for it which I will be adding next to Monkey Magic.
I was playing around with ink and paper I got from daisu, drawing faces of famous women I was looking up on the internet with varying levels of success. Without a preliminary drawing it’s easy to go wrong doing a portrait that is recognisable.
Some light entertainment to finish. I have seen Blakes 7 many many years ago. I didn’t pay $124 for it, btw, it was $7 a season in the op shop.
