I’m slamming out the posts today, aren’t I?
I found a bunch of Unfinished Objects in my to-do pile and I have been determinedly finishing them up. I used to make little faces/hands/feet out of air dry clay, and then turn them into little people things, dressed them up, etc. I say things as I’m not convinced they are all people.
I pulled out some the other day and finished off this one. There is one dude still remaining unfinished so I will deal with them later.
I found this time around I had more ability to paint better, after all the Monster High customs. I had Mr Superclear too. I made the hair out of snips of wool, glued on. It’s body is wire wrapped in stuffing and fabric and it’s wearing mostly felt clothing – one does not have to hem felt.
The face is a bit squishy and lopsided. I can’t remember actually making this dude at all. It would be over 10 years ago, at the very least, maybe more like 15. They are still pretty cute though. I had a tiny little heart charm with a dog on it, so that’s what’s around their neck.
Other people I’ve made – they are all dusty, and not as well painted as I only ever used to use acrylic paint. I didn’t know about using pastels or watercolour pencils, and certainly not Mr Superclear!
Ok this was the first attempt at the under wire thing I was making when I did a taxidermy bat. To taxidermy something you take it’s insides out and put back a wire/stuffing body instead. I made this… It went wrong, and I redid the bat insides, but I kept my attempt and turned it into…this thing.
I was terrible at taxidermy. Just saying.
This is an entire little guy with a beard and a little leather jerkin.
Nice coat, clearly he couldn’t afford shoes.
This one is so dusty I can’t even, but I also grimed him up when I made him. With a feather lined cloak and a really upturned nose.
And this guy, wearing an offcut of a 1940s dress I attempted to make (green slubby stripe). I like this guy.
Honestly havn’t thought of these guys in years, I had more. I don’t know what happened to them.
I will be making more of this sort of thing coming up. I have got myself polymer clay and I think it’s the perfect medium for making these. Better than air dry as you can work on it for much longer and get much finer. Though the more recent air dry clay seems pretty nice enough.
