During the wars there was apparently an Official Comforts Fund, which was a way of getting clothing, food, entertainment, to the troops. There is a little bit on it at the Victorian museum’s website.
I found this out when I bought a knitting booklet on ebay – it has a really nice photograph on the front and I had no pictures of gents to draw, only ladies. I was quite pleasantly surprised at the little slice of history I got, though. It has the most amazing patterns for all the forces as well as those patterns being modelled.
What an amazingly good looking young chap on the cover. We had a virtual tech summit at work last week and while I watched talks on various topics of software development and culture on zoom, I also drew him. It turned out quite well.

He’s done in pen outline, 2H, 2B, and 7B. Just using this amount of pencils, you can get amazing dynamic range going.
