This year was a mash up and probably one of the more interesting years I’ve ever had in terms of pure learning and application of learning. I’ve looked back through my blog here and photos I’ve taken throughout the year – and OMG it’s just insanity. No wonder I’m tired!
Went on holidays to Cairns, Daintree, and Port Douglas. Snorkeled and walked there.
Drove a sporty car for the first time. ZOOM!
Stayed in a youth hostel for the first time. (Probably won’t do that again!)
Testified in court. May need to do that again! Sigh.
Went to events: Ross Noble, Hannah Gadsby, James Acaster, Becky Lucas, the monarchy portrait exhibition.
Learned to felt.
Made and distributed sock monkeys.
Did arty stuff – used alcohol markers, had a go at print making, got an article published in an art magazine as well as all the other stuff I’ve put here.
Did a pickleback at Philip Island (a shot of pickle juice followed by a shot of gin, was actually wonderful!)
Learned enough Ruby to pass a coding challenge and get an internship and am now working in a great team in a listed building. I have learned to use a mac, and I became a keyboard wanker.
Started to learn Golang and the problems presented in automating ops. So much to learn in the conceptual and practical space. Started writing a Redis client. Working on a bit of code that controls the state ofS3 storage. Totally out of my previous realm of knowledge. Read many books.
Renovated a bathroom
Did a heap of sewing (dresses and hats), embroidery.
Bought some really random things.
Said goodbye to my beloved cat I’d had since 2001.
Said goodbye to a great friend I met in 2008 and who I miss on a daily basis:(
Hung out and did stuff with lots of awesome people and have watched some…interesting…movies…
Met many new people through tech meetups, met some new friends through work.
Gardened, assembled another shed (that was torture!). Decommissioned all of my fish tanks and have a currently very successful terrarium conversion from the small tank.
I’m exhausted just looking through all of this. I’ve also done all the other stuff I’ve not always blogged here, various crafts, sold a bass, bought another bass, almost never played my basses (most of my concentrated learning has gone into coding, to be fair), exercised, cooked…and it goes on.
I wonder what next years is going to be like.
