Fern Gully, Mt Buangor State Park
Playing with oil and trying to reduce a scene to really deeply unmixed blobs of colour. I’ve mixed my darks with crimson and phthao blue, I tried putting the darks in first and painting the shapes I saw, rather than the objects. To help with this I painted this upside down. I mean, the painting and the reference photo were upside down, I was upright.
I have trouble sometimes painting what I think I see rather than what I see. Tricking myself to focus on shape and tone before detail has worked in the past. I will continue to do this I think, it seems to be working.
This scene was from a drippy, ferny, gully at Buangor State Park, in Victoria.
