Calliope

I’ve been thinking for a bit I want to do another range with figures, but in watercolour. Which I’ve not done for  years. Other than the egg tempera of Ada and Darwin (and an unfinished one of Curie), I’ve basically mostly done landscape for the last two years.

I thought the Muses, drawn in modern dress, might be a good start to get myself out of the fug of non-inspiration and so I worked on this one for a bit, I picked Calliope, for epic poetry and music. I at least got started.

Hate this picture. Too wishy washy. Not what I want to do and not what I enjoy painting. I sort of finished it but gave up early. I will have to rethink my approach and probably make the figures a bit more abstract but without turning back to styles I’ve moved on from. I seriously should have done her with a guitar slung over her shoulder.
