Adding too much detail to these Xanthorrhoea looked stupid so I scrubbed out the detail. You get in there with a damp brush and lift out paint you don’t want.

I do this a fair bit to lighten bits of watercolour. I also use a wet brush on dry paint to get bark effects much better, once I’ve washed and blobbed in the trunk. Works really well for Australian trees. Probably non Aussie trees too, wouldn’t know, never painted one yet!
